The concept of mobile aisle storage simply takes rows of fixed shelving (or racking) and re-mounts these onto rectangular steel frames, called carriages. These carriages include wheel and drive assemblies and are mounted onto steel rails/tracks to allow for lateral movement.

By making rows of shelving easily moveable, unneeded aisles can now be replaced with more rows of storage. For example, a 20’ wide room could hold two single (against the walls) and three double sided rows (12" deep shelves) but needs four 36" aisles for access. By applying the concept of mobile storage capacity for the same space, you can increase from three to seven double rows, doubling capacity and leaving just one 36" moving aisle for access. Carriages can be moved either by manual effort, a mechanically assisted hand crank or electric power. Style of movement selected depends upon length, weight and number of rows to be moved.
